NAGASAKI, PART TWO The Shinigami held a meeting discussing the nature of Maria Wong's resurrection, concluding that her stepmother brought her back from the dead somehow so she could continue to sing and make money. Tsuzuki went off to investigate without Hisoka, and when Hisoka didn't meet up with him as planned he was rather irate. He soon forgot about that when he heard a scream, but when he found the source all that had happened was a young girl had passed out. He told her mother to call an ambulance, but before she could Muraki showed up and offered to examine her. They took the young girl to a nearby rest house and Tsuzuki waited outside while Muraki checked her out. Eventually Muraki came outside and explained that he is a doctor at a hospital in Tokyo, and that the young girl will be fine. Muraki and Tsuzuki formally introduced themselves to eachother, and Muraki apologized for the state he was in when Tsuzuki met him in the church the other day. The sun had begun to set by the time Muraki and Tsuzuki said their good-byes to the young girl and her mother. Tsuzuki commented on how resilient humans are, but Muraki disagreed, asking Tsuzuki if it bothered him that his body wouldn't remain perfect. He then left, telling Tsuzuki to be careful about the ones near to him being hurt. Back in EnMaCho Hisoka tried to sneak into the records room to find out about his own death, but Tsuzuki arrived in time to stop him. Tsuzuki became angry at Hisoka's behaviour, and Hisoka's empathy reacted and as he huddled against the wall he told Tsuzuki how other's emotions force themselves into him and he has no control over it. Tsuzuki backed off, but reminded Hisoka that they are partners, whether he liked it or not. Tsuzuki took GuShoShin out on patrol, and GuShoShin confessed to Tsuzuki about how when Hisoka was little his parents feared his powers and locked him in a cell. The conversation doesn't last too long because Tsuzuki got the idea to steal a uniform to sneak into the TV station. Muraki watched Tsuzuki from the window of Maria Wong's dressing room, while behind him Maria had broken free of his hypnosis and tried to kill herself. Muraki stopped her and put her back under his control. When Tsuzuki reached Maria Wong's dressing room it was empty and the place was trashed, so he ran off to find her before she could feed again. He saw her in the street but she disappeared down an alley. Later in the evening Tsuzuki was sleeping on a bench when Maria approached him, but before she could bite him he woke up and attacked, the whole thing a trap to catch her. Muraki wasn't going to let Tsuzuki win however, and cast a spell to bind him. Not that far away Hisoka had a vision of Tsuzuki in danger, and he ran to the church where Muraki had cast a spell and destroyed the crystals that were powering it, effectively freeing Tsuzuki. Tsuzuki then defeated Maria easily and she returned to her normal self. Watching from above Muraki was surprised to see Hisoka with Tsuzuki, recognizing him. Maria was fully prepared to be judged for her actions, but had one request. She went and faced her stepmother with Tsuzuki and Hisoka to back her, and told her that she wouldn't sing for her stepmother anymore, only for herself. Tsuzuki and Hisoka watched Maria's concert that night, and when Hisoka asked how Maria was still alive Tsuzuki commented that her strong will was holding her together for a short while. Hisoka saw Muraki off in the distance, and recognizing him from somewhere ran after him, without Tsuzuki's notice. He caught up with Muraki, and Muraki was pleased that the spell he had put on Hisoka to forget was still intact, and surprised that Hisoka had become a Shinigami. Before Hisoka could react Muraki used his power over Hisoka to stun him. By the time Tsuzuki realized Hisoka was missing all that was left for him to find was a huge puddle of Hisoka's blood. Comments: This episode easily exceeded my lofty expectations created by the first. There's lots of interaction between Tsuzuki and Muraki, and I am a hopeless sucker for that. Not to forget that the whole scene at the end when Maria is singing and Muraki meets up with Hisoka is gorgeous (easily one of my favorite scenes in the whole series). / BACK |
