KING OF SWORDS, PART TWO A brief repeat of Muraki's body being found from the last episode is shown. The sight of Muraki's corpse is too much for her so Tsubaki-hime collapses. Everyone gathered in the room the next day, but this time it was Tetsuhiro who gave the autopsy report (since he's a medical student). He concluded that Muraki was killed by poison in his wine, and pointed out that there were differences between Muraki and Wakabayashi's deaths; Muraki's heart hadn't been removed and the tarot card found in the envelope near his body had been torn in two. Tsuzuki took the note out of the envelope and once again it was addressed to Tsubaki-hime, saying they were the only person who truly loved her. The torn tarot card included was the king of swords. Kanako demanded Kakyoin take the ship back to port, but Kakyoin refused since he didn't want the media to find out. At that moment Akiyama came in and told Kakyoin that the radio was dead, and Kanako demanded to go to port, but Akiyama pointed out how dangerous it'd be to change course without a radio. Kanako told Kakyoin if she were the next to die she'd haunt him until his death then stormed off. Tetsuhiro also left, and using his opportunity to speak to Kakyoin alone Tsuzuki asked him about Irene, but Kakyoin forcefully denied her existence, calling it a rumor. Tsuzuki knew he had to be hiding something. Hisoka sat by Tsubaki-hime's beside since she still hadn't awoken after her collapse in Muraki's room; Tsuzuki had told him to watch her since the letters had all been addressed to her. She called out for Muraki in her sleep and reached out and grabbed Hisoka's hand and a vision came to him in a flash: images of when she met Muraki for the first time and a girl named Irene who was going to Japan with her then disappeared. Hisoka couldn't control the images which continued in rapid succession and screaming that it was enough he fell back out of his chair. Tsuzuki chose that moment to come and check in on them and found Hisoka lying unconscious on the ground. Back in their room, with Hisoka in his bed, Tsuzuki listened as GuShoShin explained how disappearances in Hong Kong matched with the reports from the house of candles and the Queen Camellia's visits to Hong Kong. Tsuzuki told him to e-mail the others the information immediately and ask if a girl named Irene was among the missing persons. Tsuzuki then asked what the meaning of the king of swords card was and GuShoShin explained that it meant "advisor" and "evil man", and that since it was torn in two it probably represented the two men who were killed. Hisoka woke up, and telling them he was ok went out for some fresh air. Hisoka had just begun to walk down the hall when he noticed Muraki's door was open. Hisoka found Tsubaki-hime in there, looking at Muraki's still form. They went out onto the deck and she explained that she had a weak heart and had nearly died many times, so her father got Dr. Muraki to take care of her. She first met him when she was 10 and instantly thought of him as an angel. She loved him and did whatever he asked, even take her horrible tasting medicine, just so he'd call her "good girl". She wondered why he had to die, and Hisoka bluntly replied that it was his punishment, and said that if Muraki were an angel his name would be Lucifer. He told her she didn't know what Muraki was really like, and Tsubaki-hime slapped him and said it was he who didn't know what he was like then stormed off, leaving Hisoka standing alone as rain started to fall. While at work at the bar Tsuzuki noticed Kanako was wearing one of Wakabayashi's rings, and commented that it was too big for her. She said he was sharp for noticing and that she planned on getting it sized once they got to Hong Kong then with a friendly wave walked away. Hisoka came and sat at the bar, soaked with rain. Tsuzuki asked if he we alright and Hisoka told him he had hurt Tsubaki-hime's feelings because he couldn't stand to hear her talk about Muraki in that way. Tsuzuki told him that even though Muraki had been a heartless bastard to them he had been Tsubaki-hime's saviour, and offered to help Hisoka make up with her. In her room, Tsubaki-hime took her medicine since it was what Muraki would have wanted, then went out into the hallway with a dazed expression on her face. Hisoka walked down the hallway with a bouquet of flowers, for Tsuzuki had promised to get restaurant reservations for him and Tsubaki-hime and told him to wear a nice tux and get her flowers. He knocked on the door of her room but there was no answer, and opening the door he found it empty. Akiyama was walking down the hall when he noticed an envelope sticking out from under Kanako's door. Hisoka, Tsuzuki, Tsubaki-hime, Tetsuya, and Akiyama gathered in Kanako's room and Hisoka opened the envelope which contained another message for Tsubaki-hime. Tsuzuki opened Kanako's costume trunk and Tsubaki-hime screamed and buried her face on Hisoka's chest when she saw the contents; Kanako's corpse was inside, her eyes blindfolded and the tarot card the Six of Pentacles on her chest. Tetsuhiro picked up the card and noted it was the same as Wakabayashi, so she must have been poisoned and then had her heart removed. Wakabayashi's ring fell from Kanako's finger and Tsuzuki bent and picked it up. Tetsuhiro continued, saying Kanako and Kakyoin had been arguing last night and wondered if Kakyoin was the killer. Tsubaki-hime objected that her father would never do something like that. Hisoka suggested they go ask Kakyoin, and Tsuzuki agreed. An announcement was made over the loud speaker that the ship was currently in a storm. When they arrived at Kakyoin's study an envelope was sticking out from under the door. It was another message for Tsubaki-hime, and within the study the head and torso of Kakyoin hung from the ceiling and his limbs were throughout the room. Tsubaki-hime fainted dead away, and Hisoka ran to her side and read the rest of the message which stated the dead don't speak and asked if they still did not know who it was. Beneath Kakyoin, covered in his blood, was the tarot card the seven of wands. Tetsuhiro fell to his knees, convinced he was the next to die. As the storm raged outside, Hisoka watched over Tsubaki-hime in her room. In his room Tsuzuki looked at the tarot cards and pondered their meaning. The ace of wands meant "the beginning", which marked the start of the murders; the king of swords meant "advisor" or "evil man", both of which could apply to Muraki; the six of pentacles meant "bribe", which might be Wakabayashi's ring; and the seven of wands meant "threat", which meant he must have been threatened by someone. Tsuzuki still didn't know anything though, and wondered if it were all a game to the killer. GuShoShin got his attention suddenly and told him he had received a message about Irene. Tsubaki-hime woke and Hisoka asked her how she felt. She told him as well as she could under the circumstances. When he mentioned her father she told him to not say anything to help her remember. GuShoShin told Tsuzuki that Irene was one of the missing persons, but it was uncertain whether or not she was dead because although she was in the records her soul hadn't returned yet, and all the others on the missing person list were the same. Tsuzuki was holding Wakabayashi's ring and accidentally crushed in, and among the shards found a micro-chip. Hisoka apologized to Tsubaki-hime for hurting her feelings earlier, and she told him it was alright but asked to know what happened between him and Muraki. Hisoka told her the whole truth, that his name wasn't Hibiki Azumi, he wasn't even human, and then told her the story of his encounter with Muraki that lead to his death. He told her he was a Shinigami and had become one to get revenge on Muraki. Tsubaki-hime couldn't believe it, but Hisoka told her he'd show her and picking up a knife that was in a bowl of fruit stabbed it in his hand. To her surprise the wound on his hand healed before her eyes, then he went on to say he was on the ship to investigate a case and had been spying on them. He apolagized, then she took his hand and crying asked him if he hated Muraki that much, even after death, and said that if he still hurt that much it proved he'd be cursed forever, just like her. In his room, Muraki's hand twitched, his mouth moved slightly, and then his eyes opened. Comments: I was very glad when Muraki wasn't dead, even though I knew he wouldn't die that easily. Visual conformation is always good. I have to say that this episode has probably the most gruesome murders out of the entire series.. When Kakyoin's just hanging there it's so very creepy. *shudders* / BACK |
