KYOTO, PART ONE

Muraki was standing in front of a mysterious object, wishing for his beloved (Tsuzuki) to come to him at once.

Tsuzuki was lying amongst the cherry trees in EnMaCho, watching the blossoms fall, and Tatsumi came up with a tray of tea. Tatsumi commented that it was beautiful how they blossomed all year round here, but Tsuzuki replied that he found the blossoms beautiful because they would eventually die, like humans. Tatsumi noticed how he was holding his right wrist in his hand, but then Tsuzuki walked off, saying they had a meeting soon.

At the meeting, Watari showed them pictures of victims of a serial killer, all young girls with a part of their hair cut off. Konoe ordered Tsuzuki and Hisoka to go assist Watari with his case.

Walking along a bridge in Kyoto, Watari was making with pleasant conversation, but Tsuzuki cut him off and asked to know the reason they had been sent to help Watari, since Kyoto was his area. Watari pulled out a bag which contained a lock of hair he suspected was the killers. From the silvery color of the lock, it was fairly obvious who it belonged to.

Muraki visited a University Hospital in Kyoto, looking for a professor Satomi, and all the nurses couldn't help but comment on how hot he was after he passed by. Two girls, Maki and Mariko, who went to the adjoining highschool walked by the window Professor Satomi's office, talking about how in that lab they were supposedly working on human clones. In the lab a heart the Professor had cloned failed, which made him quite angry and he commented that he needed a stronger sample. On the table next to his computer were bags with samples of hair contained within.

In Ko Kaku Rou, a very secret, high profile brothel disguised as a fancy restaurant, Muraki sat and drank tea with Oriya, the owner of the establishment and a good friend of his. Oriya commented on his foolishness at allowing some of his hair to be found at the crime scene, but Muraki pointed out that it was a beacon for his beloved to find him.

Our three Shinigami were wandering around the streets of Kyoto, trying to find the place they would be staying from a little map they had. Tsuzuki hoped it was a fancy hotel where he could have a nice bath. To his dismay it was nothing more than an old abandoned house. Hisoka headed out to pick up some groceries, and back at the house Watari used his computer to analyze the DNA taken from the hair and proved that it was in fact Muraki that was behind the murders. Looking at the time, Tsuzuki wondered why Hisoka was taking so long buying dinner.

Hisoka had a very good reason for being late. On his way home, it was almost as if it were a repeat of past events; a blood red moon hung in the sky and there was Muraki with a female victim lying in a puddle of her own blood at his feet.

Muraki commented on his bad timing, and when Hisoka became angry Muraki asked if he were still angry about the events that occurred with Tsubaki-hime. Hisoka charged at him but Muraki grabbed his arm and effortlessly pinned it behind his back. Muraki was about to teach him another lesson when Tsuzuki appeared. Muraki asked if they could go to a secluded spot to talk. Tsuzuki agreed and the two of them walked away, leaving Hisoka behind.

They went to a restaurant, and Muraki calmly admitted he was the killer, and he did it all to lure Tsuzuki to him. Tsuzuki lunged at Muraki but he pinned him as easily as he had Hisoka. Tusuzki grew angry, but then Muraki commented on his watch, how he wore it on his right wrist. He asked Tsuzuki if he were left-handed or if he just wore it to cover the scars. Tsuzuki was stunned, and he didn't move as Muraki got up and left the restaurant.

Back at Ko Kaku Rou, Muraki was reading through old medical files his grandfather had written about a patient who went 8 years without food or water, who often tried to end his life by slitting his wrist.

Maki asked Mariko to return a book to Professor Satomi for her, and when Mariko went to his office Muraki was outside. The Professor came by and Mariko gave him the book, then Muraki and the Professor went inside his office. Mariko thought Muraki was gorgeous, and wondered if he were a professor, and if he were involved in the clone research as well.

In the office, Professor Satomi thanked Muraki for attaining so many sample for him as well as funding his research. He then noticed that his current cloned heart had stopped beating, and asked Muraki for a stronger sample. Muraki handed him an old photograph from his grandfather's album, and told the Professor that it was a patient of his grandfather's, who stayed at his hospital for 8 years without paying, and that during that time he neither slept nor ate. Satomi didn't believe him, but Muraki continued, saying that his body did not weaken until he killed himself at the age of 26. Muraki commented on how it would help medicine, but the Professor reminded him that the patient was dead. Muraki corrected him, saying that after years of searching he found him alive, and as beautiful as ever. Focusing on the picture, we can see it is none other than Tsuzuki.

Sitting on a flight of stairs outdoors somewhere, Tsuzuki told Hisoka how Muraki had done all those crimes to lure him, and wondered how many people had died because of him.

Using a card key, Muraki entered a lab where the mysterious object is revealed to be a perfectly preserved human head. Muraki referred to it as Saki, and told it that soon it would have a new body and then it would truly die. Manaical laughter on Muraki's part follows.

Comments: The final arc starts off beautifully, with not much action but lots of plot and finally we are treated to a glimpse of Tsuzuki's sad past and Muraki's ultimate motive. All in all, I love this episode muchly. ^^
