Hisoka is the youngest of the Shinigami, having died only recently. As well, since he died at the age of 16 he'll spend eternity in the body of a teenager. He's unaccustomed to interacting with others, and can come across as rude. His life also left him with a negative outlook on things, but slowly as the series progresses he learns to trust others and develops friendships. It's harder for him than others though, because Hisoka is gifted with the ability to read others thoughts and emotions, which isn't always a pleasant experience for him. His psychic ability isn't his only power; Hisoka is trying hard to learn magic so that one day he can be as powerful as Tsuzuki.

Hisoka's past is one filled with sadness, and his gift is partially a reason behind it. He came from an old and proud family, and his parents feared him and considered him a freak. They never treated him with the love a son deserves and would often lock him away in a cell.

Eventually Hisoka became ill and was hospitalized, and it was then that his luck truly took a turn for the worse. One night he had a sudden desire to go for a walk, and outside he came across something he shouldn't had seen; as a blood red moon hung in the sky he saw Muraki murder a woman, and Hisoka didn't go unnoticed by Muraki. Muraki caught Hisoka and decided he deserved a beautiful death, so he stripped the boy of his clothes and wrote a curse onto his skin, then removed his memory of the night.

The curse slowly killed Hisoka, but since it was undetectable his death was assumed to be due to his illness. After death, he still knew that he had been murdered and became a Shinigami to find out who was responsible for his death.

Asano Mayumi was the actress who gave Hisoka his voice.
